Witnessing Giants
Each winter, whales return to the waters of Baja California to breed, give birth, and prepare their calves for the long migration north. Across calm lagoons and the rougher open Pacific, these encounters revealed both the scale and tenderness of one of the ocean’s largest animals.
Witnessing The Rhythm of Tafí
In the valleys and mountain ridges surrounding Tafí del Valle, horses are not symbols of tradition preserved for tourists — they remain part of daily life. Gauchos move cattle across steep terrain with a quiet efficiency shaped by generations of experience, working alongside dogs and horses that understand the landscape as instinctively as the people guiding them.
Witnessing Coexistence
For centuries, wolves lived only in stories across much of Germany. Hunted to local extinction and remembered through folklore, they survived more in human imagination than in the landscape itself. Today, that story is changing.

Maik Styrnol is a documentary photographer focused on human stories, wildlife, and the relationship between people and the natural world. His work is shaped by an observational approach, capturing quiet moments, changing environments, and authentic experiences through a calm and cinematic visual language.
With a background in dynamic live environments and independent storytelling projects, his photography explores themes of conservation, culture, and connection to place — creating visual narratives that feel grounded, honest, and emotionally present.
